Not Just a GPS: Garmin nüvi 660 Personal Travel Assistant

The Garmin nüvi 660 is not just a portable GPS navigator, it’s also a Personal Travel assistant. It features a SiRF Star III high-sensitivity GPS receiver, WAAS enabled. It has a 4.3-inch widescreen display, measures 4.9 x 2.9 x 0.9 inches, 2 GB of memory and a SD memory card slot.

The nüvi 660 is integrated with Bluetooth wireless technology with microphone and speaker which let you make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.

It comes loaded with highly detailed NAVTEQ City Navigator NT road maps for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions, and the data is provided by NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. The screen-width scale is selectable from 640 feet to 4,000 miles. It gives turn-by-turn directions, has automatic off-route recalculation, detour function, FM TMC traffic alert, and waypoints (500 with name and symbol). It features a trip computer with odometer, timers, average and maximum speeds.

It features a wireless FM transmitter. Tune your car's radio to the appropriate station and you'll hear all the nüvi's audio, including voice prompts, MP3s, audio books, and more, directly through your vehicle's stereo system. The nüvi 660 includes many "must-have" entertainment and travel tools, including digital music and audio book playback, JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, and more. All these great features make the nüvi 660 a complete Personal Travel Assistant. Wow.

GPS and More: Garmin nüvi 350

It seems like the line between electronic device capabilities is blurring. This is just one more example but one that makes perfect sense. The Garmin nüvi 350 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator is a compact 700 MB GPS navigator with MP3, audio book player, photo viewer, and world travel clock. It’s small enough to fit in a pocket and can be mounted on a vehicle windshield. It has a 320x240 touchscreen display and a SD memory card slot.

Additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects. Through the unit's text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.

Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips.

What's truly impressive is that over 1000 people gave this device a perfect 5-star rating at Amazon.com.
