Speaks with Voice of KITT: Mio Knight Rider GPS

Move over Garmin and Tom Tom. There's only one GPS unit that issues directions in the voice of KITT (William Daniels), and it's this trick Knight Rider unit from Mio. The unit is basically the same Mio kit as you'd expect, only it boots up by saying "Hello Michael, where do you want to go today?", uses a cartoon Trans-Am to represent your car, and features dual LED scanner lights on each side. How cool is that!

Computex 2008: Mio GPS Camera

At Computex 2008 (Asia's largest technology trade show), Mio unveiled a new concept product called the "PND (portable navigation device) camera" that integrates a GPS radio into a digital camera. Details and specs are still fuzzy, but according to GPS Business News, the device will feature a 3.5-inch touchscreen, optical zoom lens, and, with the two integrated technologies, the camera will be able to geotag your photos. Pretty cool!

Computex 2008: Mio Leap K1 and G50

Mio introduced two handsets at Computex 2008. The Windows Mobile 6.1 G50 and the two-faced LEAP K1.

The G50 features a 400MHz processor, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth, possible Wi-Fi (still needs confirmation), GPS, and a 2.0-megapixel camera, running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. There's also Spb Mobile Shell 2.0, MioMap 2008, and geotagging support as added extras.

The Leap K1 has two faces - one with a traditional numeric keypad, while the other features an expansive display perfect for displaying routes. The communications system of the Leap K1 features a tri-band GSM (900, 1800, 1900), 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, side SIM card slot that is hot-swappable, and a micro-SD slot. The multimedia functions include a mp3/mp4 player, and portable navigation device feature running under Windows Mobile 6.1. The Leap K1 has Mio's own cell phone interface with text messaging capabilities.
