"Funnest" iPod has Bluetooth Chipset: iPod touch 2g

I posted about the new iPod touch yesterday. The curious minds at iFixit uncovered a Broadcom Bluetooth chipset inside the innards of an iPod touch 2g, something that was withheld from the general public during the device's launch. It isn't listed down on the product page. The Broadcom Bluetooth chipset supports 2.1+EDR although there is no confirmation as to whether it does A2DP as well for you to enjoy your music over a pair of wireless stereo headphones.

According to MacRumors, the Nike+ functionality on the iPod touch 2g utilizes the same 2.4GHz frequency as Bluetooth which explains the presence of this chip.

The Funnest iPod Ever: iPod touch 2g

The iPod touch just got updated, bringing its case design in line with the iPhone 3g's (though keeping the steel backside) and adding a couple of new features.

Available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB storage sizes, the iPod touch now has external volume controls on the side and integrated Nike+ support, which means the hardware that used to require a transmitter plugged into your iPod is now built in. It uses the accelerometer to follow your workout, playing music in time with your running and helping you keep track of your workouts over time.

The touch also gets Genius playlist support, which was announced for the new version of iTunes. You can now have your iPod Touch come up with smart playlists on the fly for you.

Another iPod/iPhone Projector: Optoma Pico Projector

A few days ago I posted about a projector for the iPod/iPhone. Here's another one. Optoma announced the Pico Projector, a portable video projector for the iPod and iPhone (3G). According to Optoma, the Pico Projector is small (hence the name) and can project video from any iPod/iPhone. It is expected to be out this year in Europe. No other info is available at this time.

iPod touch + Lipstick: iStick

Designer Alexei Mikhailov admits that the iStick isn’t for viewing movies and the screen is too small for effective photo viewing. What iStick has is a visual replication of the iPod touch interface inside a device the size of a lipstick tube. What is truly neat is the screen design - all four surfaces are touchscreens. It even has integrated Wi-Fi for accessing iTunes.

Archos 605 Wi-Fi versus Apple iPod touch: CNET Review

CNET pitted the Archos 605 Wi-Fi to the iPod touch in a head-to-head competition. Why those two devices? Well, according to CNET, both offer wide-screen video playback, a Wi-Fi Internet browser, the ability to play Internet video content from YouTube, wireless music purchases, a music player, photo viewer, video player, and more. This is one pretty media player. The iPod touch features Apple's multi-touch user interface, first introduced on the iPhone. It has a 3.5-inch display and is an incredible eight millimeters thin! It comes with 8 GB or 16 GB of memory.

The iPod touch includes Wi-Fi wireless networking, the first on any iPod and includes three applications that take advantage of the wireless function: Safari, the most advanced browser on any mobile device and features Google Search or Yahoo! oneSearch; Apple's YouTube application lets users wirelessly watch over 10 million free videos from the Internet's most popular video website; and the new iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store lets you wirelessly browse, preview and buy songs and albums from the iTunes store.
